Neuro/Z-Health

Most people who find me for Neuro sessions have been told there is no hope for what they struggle with – chronic pain, vision problems, sensory issues, idiopathic scoliosis, vertigo, immobility, nerve pain and numbness, brain injuries and head trauma, breathing difficulties, digestive disorders, stress disorders, loss of cognitive skills … even something as simple as, “I hate running, but I want to be able to run.” And, the list goes on.

Yet, something inside of them comes alive when we talk about the brain ~ the hope of recovery, the hope of functionality, the hope of improvement, the hope of enjoyment.

Our work begins by following foundational principles of Z-Health Performance Solutions to assess how your brain and body are functioning and communicating with each other. The nervous system responds at the speed of movement so you and I will know instantly what is making your brain feel safe or threatened.

That information will inform where we begin and how we progress ~ the process is extremely customized.

Z-Health Performance Solutions is a brain-based approach to fitness.

By understanding how your brain perceives movement we can unlock the hidden reasons you “get only so far” in all your fitness endeavors, why you can’t seem to bust through that weight loss hurdle, why you keep re-injuring yourself or why you don’t enjoy certain activities for seemingly “no reason”.

We’ll address your visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems to ensure they are sending clear inputs to your brain. We’ll assess how your brain is interpreting and processing that information. And, we’ll look at how accurately that information is being sent back out to the body.

It’s not rocket science, it’s neuroscience. And it’s one of the most important tools I can teach you for decreasing stress, reducing pain, avoiding injury, and maximizing your fitness and performance in every area of your life for the rest of your life.

Our Neuro sessions will teach you how to improve your focus, balance, stability, coordination, vision, cognitive function, lung capacity, strength, and endurance. If you’re in pain, you’ll begin to understand the nature of where it comes from so you can recover, restore function, and excel in your goals.

Movement Input System

Vision is more than seeing clearly. We have multiple visual skills that allow us to accommodate ever-changing environmental factors. Having high functioning, competent vision means your brain feels safer and has better information with which you can move more easily through the world. It’s a high priority system that not many fitness professionals are training, though it is involved in all forms of movement.

Vestibular relates to your inner ear function and your orientation to gravity. We have a brilliant system that helps us navigate the world and how efficiently we move through it. If you’ve ever experienced vertigo you know just how critical it is that you have a healthy vestibular system.

Proprioception refers to our sense of where we are in space as it relates to our bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves. The “sense of where we are” shows up in our brains as body maps. The clearer and more detailed your body maps are the better and more competently you can move in your activities, sports, and daily life.

Sensory Match or Mismatch refers to how the brain processes and interprets incoming information from the visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems.

High Quality Sensory Match can lead to:

  • Improved range of motion, mobility, flexibility
  • Increased muscle function that translates to strength and endurance gains
  • Improved visual acuity, skills and competency
  • Decreases in pain, headaches, and body tension
  • Improved cognitive function, motivation, clarity, decision making
  • Improved respiration, digestion, lung capacity, sleep, and mood
  • Decreased sense of stress and increased capacity to handle stress

Chronic Sensory Mismatch can lead to:

  • Diminished range of motion, mobility and flexibility
  • Decreased muscle function seen in strength and endurance loss
  • Potential pain, tension and tightness
  • Diminished cognitive function, focus and decision making
  • Decreased respiration, lung capacity, sleep and mood
  • Increased sense of stress and decreased capacity to handle stress
  • Diminished visual capacity and clarity
  • Depression and/or Anxiety
  • Digestive issues
  • … and many other threat outputs designed to get your attention and change what you’re doing

The goal of our Neuro work is to re-educate your brain and body so that you experience high-quality sensory match that leads to the healthy functioning of all your systems and creates movement options that you thought were out of reach.
